Southwest Airlines reduced its number of flights in late January but has seen an even more dramatic drop in its number of passengers. In reaction, Southwest and other airlines are slashing fares, with some down more than 50 percent from last winter. Industry experts believe now is the time to book—by July, the airlines will have made successive cuts in flights to catch up with the dwindling demand.
