ZOO BABIES 2008
Four playful meerkat pups, an endangered bonobo named Mali, and a leaf froglet—teeny enough to perch on a fingertip—are a few of the newcomers welcomed at U.S. zoos in recent months. As these fun facts and photos suggest, baby animals are (almost) just like us!
We caught up with some of the cuties featured last year to see how they're progressing. Compare before/after photos in our slide show
, and find out how much giant panda cub Mei Lan now weighs, what Asian elephant Mac did for his first birthday, and which youngster is no longer a shy mama's boy.
FROM OUR BLOG: THIS JUST IN
In the latest installment of our Affordable Europe
series, a staffer writes: "I've just returned from a 10-day trip to Italy and cannot sing the praises of Auto Europe enough. The company, based in Portland, Maine, is a wholesaler that gets discounted rates from the major rental-car agencies. In fact, the rate I found on its website was at least $150 cheaper than anywhere else I looked."
A good airfare is only so satisfying: InsideTrip is a new website that rates all the factors (aircraft type, security wait time, legroom…) that matter these days.
